Fr. 311. 1880 $20 Silver Certificate. PMG Very Fine 30.An early Silver Certificate type which seldom appears without netting defects with repairs and problems typically the norm. This vivid example defies that trend and is presented here in a problem-free for the grade state. Even and light wear keep the intricate detail of this type quite brilliant with the large brown Treasury seal and "XX" protector showing with great color. Ornate bordering devices and geometric lathe work are quite bold on this piece. These Certificate of Deposit notes are famous for their back designs with this piece boldly representing that feature. The word "SILVER," is seen in large lettering across the entire back and was meant to instill confidence in the public who utilized these notes in commerce. One of the few problem free Very Fine examples of this design we have handled in recent memory.
