This issue prepared by the Bank of England due to a power shortage at the Royal Mint and thus an anticipated shortage of silver coinage. In the end the notes were never released and were sent down to Dungeness for destruction; some survived but all are very rare and most examples extant are in moderate condition or even slightly singed! In exceptional grade for type; rare and a fascinating piece of banknote history
