拍品描述： Bank of England, Abraham Newland (1778-1807), ｣1, London 2 March 1797, manuscript serial number 2, black and white, ornate crowned vignette of Britannia top left, I promise to pay to Abraham Newland or Bearer on demand the sum of One Pound, value in black tablet low left, manuscript serial number, date, Abraham Newland and two signatures below, (EPM B200a, Pick 170), in PMG holder 20 Very Fine and a truly wonderful note in any grade with number 2 important: number 1 still extant (with whereabouts unknown) and consequently this presents a rare opportunity for the collector to acquire the earliest-known Bank of England ｣1 note in existence. In addition and included is a letter on Bank of England notepaper dated 1894 and signed by Chief Cashier Horace Bowen, addressed to a gentleman and assuring him that "Note No.2 is undoubtedly genuine"!
