CHINA. Tibet. Srang, BE 15-43 (1909). Dode Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. L&M-656; KM-Y-12; WS-0282 (same dies); Chinese Tibetan Coins-1-148 (same reverse die). Plain edge variety; SCARCE one year type. A beautiful survivor with lovely rich old cabinet patina, the obverse displays a plethora of hues from a dirty sunset orange in the outer peripheries that seamlessly transitions to a morning sunlight yellow then to cobalt in the central fields with just a hint of sea-foam green mixed in, while the tops of the devices remain light grey in color. The reverse exhibits a deeper patina amongst the devices from an attractive slate to russet with the tops of the design features and central fields a medium grey tone. An incredible example possessing fantastic eye appeal and though not the finest known its destine to wind up in a fine cabinet. From the Christopher Greene (馬祈) Collection.
