SWITZERLAND. Beromuenster. 1/4 Taler, ND (ca. 1720). NGC MS-64.KM-3. Obverse: Helmeted oval arms, cross below; Reverse: St. Michael defeats a demon. A captivating type due to its illustrative design that depicts a powerful image of St. Michaels triumph over evil. Preserved in near-Gem quality, this piece certainly captivates, with strike detail that is noticeably fuller than most and fields that maintain uncommon reflective gleam. Original gray tone compliments both sides and integrated multicolored iridescence adds an additional element of character. An early commemorative issue, this type, struck in a number of varieties, was produced for the millennium anniversary of the founding of the abbey in Beromuenster. Today, Beromuenster, located in north Switzerland, has a population around 6,500, and is situated in the greater Lucerne region. From the Linda Collection.
