ITALY. 100 Lire, 1864-T BN. Turin Mint. Vittorio Emanuele II. NGC AU-53.Fr-8; KM-19.1; Mont-126; Gig-1. Mintage: 579. A RARE type and a keystone of any collection of Italian coins. An attractive and bright survivor with signs of handling consistent for the grade. Luster remains in the protected areas of both the obverse and reverse legends and central devices of the reverse with just a hint of light tone hugging the design features. A wholesome and highly sought after issue that seldom appears on the market.According Gigante and Montenegro very few examples of this date were actually struck in 1864, with 474 pieces struck in 1865 and 105 pieces struck in 1867. It is suggested that the mintage is greater than the stated 579 pieces with no indication on how to determine which emission any individual piece came from.
