GREAT BRITAIN. Copper 5 Shillings Pattern, 1887. Victoria. NGC PROOF-65 Brown.ESC-2685 (R5; formerly ESC-348). Spink & Son issue. By J. Rochelle Thomas in Bavaria. An incredible pattern issue, the present specimen is one of just five produced in this copper module, being commissioned by Spink & Son for presentation to the crown for a new design. Though ultimately rejected, the design has become intensely popular with the collecting community, whereby it can be seen as a bridge between normal coinage issues and the more artistic medallic issues. Incredibly RARE and worthy of much consideration from the discerning collector.
