GREAT BRITAIN. Bronzed Copper Crown Pattern, 1820. George III. PCGS PROOF-65 Gold Shield.ESC-2059. Dies by Jean Pierre Droz. Obverse: Hercules seated right, breaking sticks with his knee; Reverse: Crowned arms. Toned in an exceptional patina, the rich mahogany and chocolate brown hues are speckled with hints of indigo toning, including a prominent area on the reverse beneath the E of TVTAMEN. Lightly reflective in the fields and richly frosted across the devices, the surfaces are overall untroubled and without distractions. Magnification reveals impressive intricacy to the finest design elements including the ships in the water before Hercules and the wing feathers on the harp within the shield. A beautiful and SCARCE issue with just one example ranked finer on the PCGS Population Report.
