GORDIAN I AFRICANUS, A.D. 238. AR Denarius (3.43 gms), Rome Mint. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style.RIC-1; RSC-2. Obverse: Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: Gordian standing left, holding branch and parazonium. As with any type of Gordians I and II, a very rare piece, given that their reign lasted just three weeks in April 238 A.D. The total mintage during this time was surely minuscule, and the number surviving with the quality such as the present example makes it even rarer still. Well centered and struck from dies of fine style, offering an alluring light cabinet tone.
