It depicts three of the most famous Confederate leaders of the Civil War riding on their favorite horses: President Jefferson Davis and Blackjack; General Robert E. Lee and Traveller; and General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson and Little Sorrel. From a mintage of 2,310,000 half dollars, 1,310,000 were sold to raise funds for the monument.
