1865 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. Unc Details--Cleaned (PCGS).Warm honey-orange patina and ample remnants of satin to semi-reflective luster provide uncommonly strong eye appeal relative to the assigned grade. Sharply to fully struck throughout. Produced during an era when gold did not circulate in the East or Midwest, it is little wonder that the circulation strike 1865 three-dollar gold issue has a paltry mintage of just 1,140 coins. Survivors are elusive in all grades, Mint State examples particularly rare and likely numbering only 20 to 25 coins. Although not a perfect example, this is a relatively attractive piece that will appeal to many advanced gold collectors. From the Maurice Snow Collection. Acquired from Harry J.
