拍品描述 1815 Captain Charles Stewart / USS Constitution vs. HMS Levant and Cyane Naval Medal. Original Dies. Bronze. 65 mm. Julian NA-22. MS-64 BN (NGC).Struck from the original dies, the base of the letter T in FURST defective with a bar (per Julian) across it that suggests repunching. This attractive example displays a rich olive-brown patina on both sides. Moderately reflective in texture, with a satiny finish overall. Sharply struck with a couple of light contact marks in the expansive obverse field. The reverse design depicts the naval engagement between the USS Constitution and the British warships Levant and Cyane, fought on February 20, 1815, which actually took place after the Treaty of Ghent official ended the War of 1812. The dies were prepared by Moritz Furst in 1819 and were in use until at least 1885.
