Traces of smoothing visible on the back, probably from the cleaning process. The knife is in Extremely Fine condition. The Knife Money, cast with advanced techniques by the State of Qi, was among the most beautiful pieces of the Warring States period. These knives were issued with 3, 4, 5 and 6 characters on the obverse. The more characters they have, the rarer and more desirable they are. Knives with 6 characters, with only a handful examples known, are the most sought after pieces. The consignor purchased this presented piece from an old Japanese collection with many other Chinese ancient rarities years ago. Trace of blue ink remaining on the rims shows that this piece was outlined, probably for archiving or researching purposes. Due to the unavailability of these rare knives, the consignor believes that very few examples could be traced and used for counterfeiting, especially for high quality forgeries. However, we still recommend careful study prior to bidding on this lot. Sold as is, no returns. Estimate Value 50,000 - UP
