1873-S Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. MS-61 (PCGS).An uncommonly sharp example with crisp definition to most features and appreciable boldness to the eagles head and right leg feathers on the reverse. Warm orange-gold patina on both sides supports a soft satiny texture that is exceptionally smooth for the assigned grade level. Although similar in overall rarity, the 1873-S is more elusive in Mint State that several of the other San Francisco Mint quarter eagles from the 1870s, most notably the 1877-S and 1878-S.
