CHINA. Yunnan Sanchuo Jieding. Provincial Three Stamp Remittance Ingots. Silver 5 Tael Bank Ingot, 8th Month. VERY FINE。185.48 gms. BMC-Class LXVI Group H #799. "Gong Gu Ton Kan Qi" (checked by public assayer Tong). "Lei Qing Tai Hao Ba Yue Wen Yin" (Leiqingtai Bank, 8th month, fine silver). Outer stamps deeply applied as is usually for this series with minor earthen deposit amongst the devices somewhat obstructing parts of several characters. The central stamps are better than normally encountered, evenly applied with good definition of the characters, though slightly flat. Rich slate grey patina with hints of golden hues in the central stamp. Quite an attractive example for the specialist looking completeness of detail.emThis particular type of packsaddle ingots was widely used and was made during nearly the entire history of the use of packsaddle ingots in Yunnan. The reason for stating the month of manufacture was to keep track of payments being made by Yunnan remittance banks to entities in other provinces, or over a far distance which may take several months to arrive. In this way an agreed upon payment could be made at an agreed upon time despite the uncertainty of travel time./em。
