1866 Pair of Counterfeit Notes from Bank of the Old Dominion, Alexandria, Virginia with Letter. Good.Total of three items in display. A pair of counterfeit $5 notes from this bank dated 1850s, but clearly false and officially cancelled. Circled is the diagnostic "State Treasurer" on the right. Included is the 1866 transmittal return letter from the "successor" bank which, of course, would not redeem these counterfeits. Docketed letter, 19 x 25 cm. The two notes are Good, one with corner off. Letter with damage across center and carefully mended; staining. Very nicely displayed in its special archival acid free paper folder with sized mylar holder.From the MJS Collection.
