T-5. Confederate Currency. 1861 $100. PCGS Currency Choice About New 58.No. 2135, Plate B. The first of the Richmond notes issued after the relocation of the Confederate capital, these high quality $100s were produced by the Southern Bank Note Company in New Orleans which was the southern operating branch of the American Bank Note Company. Justice with sword and scales is seen at left. A steam locomotive with cars in tow chugs by a river at center. Minerva, the goddess of war, is seen at right. This well cut and crisp example displays bold forest green protector tints and creamy white red fiber paper. The penned signatures of Tyler and Elmore are neatly signed. The back features a sharply inked manuscript issuing endorsement dated Sept. 10, 1861 stating that the note was issued on that date from Memphis, Tennessee by Maj. W. J. Anderson. It appears that only a light corner fold prevented this note from a full uncirculated grade. From the Green Valley Collection.
