T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PCGS Currency Fine 12.No. 1173, Plate A. An affordable yet very presentable $50 Montgomery note. Many budget minded Confederate collectors get tripped up when it comes to the "Big Six" notes that comprise a 72 note type set. Understandably, it is difficult for many collectors to fork out five-figures for a single note, let along five more. When more affordable options come along they are typically heavily impaired and unattractive. The presently offered note is a rare and welcome exception. The design elements of this early $50 type are well presented with the vignette and counters seen in sharp detail. The green tints are a bit faded but present. This example is well circulated but the paper faces up nicely despite the restorations mentioned by the grading service. The note was once punch cancelled but those cancellations have been expertly closed. The original signatures have faded and were redrawn. Other restorations are seen in the corners and along the edges. This is still one of the best options we have seen for a budget minded collector seeking to add a Montgomery note to their holdings. From the Green Valley Collection.
