T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PCGS Currency Very Fine 35.No. 1241, Plate A. The T-4 $50 notes of 1861 are the last of the four types issued while the Confederate capital was located in Montgomery. Just 1606 examples were issued and today less than 200 are known to survive. This example is moderately circulated and bright with excellent green tints and a sharply detailed vignette at center. Neatly penned signatures of Register Clitherall and Treasurer Elmore are seen at the bottom left and right respectively. The back of the note features a manuscript issuing endorsement dated June 21, 1861 from Captain and Commissary of Subsistence P. Williams. This example was punch cancelled four times in the signature panels and once each at top left and right of center. Those cancellations have been closed as mentioned by the grading service. The note retains a great overall appearance. From the Green Valley Collection.
