T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PMG About Uncirculated 50.PF-2. No. 820. Plate A. The T-4 is the last of the four Confederate treasury notes to be issued while the Confederate capital was located in Montgomery. These were high quality notes produced by the National Bank Note Company and bore interest at a rate of one-half cent per day. 1,606 examples of this type were issued and today less than 200 are known to survive. This lightly circulated $50 comes on bright, clean paper and features vibrant green inks. The signatures of Clitherall and Elmore are neatly penned and clearly legible. This note is simply rare in these lightly circulated states and PMG has yet to grade a single piece in their entire Uncirculated range. This note is the single piece PMG has graded at the About Uncirculated 50 level and just a scant four grade finer. PMG mentions "Pinholes, Previously Mounted," in the comments section of the holder with the former being a small group at center in the vignette and the later being so unobtrusive that we cannot determine the location of the offending area. Back endorsement of May 25, 1861.From the Wealth of the South Collection.
