T-3. Confederate Currency. 1861 $100. PMG About Uncirculated 55.PF-2. No. 1149. Plate A. The National Bank Note Company produced these high quality $100s using patented steel plates and 1,606 were issued. Ceres, Goddess of Agriculture, is seen at left. A wonderful scene of a steam locomotive with passenger cars waiting at a depot is seen at center. Vibrant green border and protector inks are seen along with bright uncancelled paper. Well penned signatures of Clitherall and Elmore are also found. Just a vertical fold right of center and handling account for the grade. A look at the PMG population report shows just three at this About Uncirculated 55 level with only two finer. The finer pair grade 55 EPQ and 58 EPQ making none to have been certified by PMG in the Uncirculated range. PMG mentions "Previously Mounted," in the comments section of the holder although locating the offending areas could not be done by us looking through the encapsulation surface. From the Wealth of the South Collection.
