1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 28-o, W-3140. Rarity-6-. Draped Bust Left. VF-20 (PCGS).130.2 grains. Mottled mahogany and light olive brown surfaces. Smooth and glossy upon first inspection, though some microgranularity is noted under magnification and a shallow natural rough patch at the effigy’s face is due to striking weakness in this area. No major planchet flaws; just a single thin scratch is noted on the reverse. Struck slightly off center with some weakness around the left on both sides and at the centers, a common feature of the 28-o. Seemingly a nicer coin overall than those in Perkins and Ford, even though those were more sharply detailed. From the Twin Leaf Collection of Connecticut & Massachusetts Coppers.
