1869 Pattern Quarter Dollar. Judd-725, Pollock-806. Rarity-7+. Aluminum. Reeded Edge. Proof. Unc Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS).strongObv:/strong Standard Silver design with a right facing bust of Liberty on the obverse, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the border and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll below. Liberty is wearing a cap ornamented with three stars, and a ribbon crossing her shoulder is inscribed LIBERTY. strongRev:/strong The denomination 25 CENTS is centered within a wreath of oak and laurel leaves with the inscription STANDARD SILVER above and the date 1869 below. Dominant bright silver surfaces retain considerable "flash" to the uniformly mirrored finish that characterizes both sides of this piece. The stated impairment is not all that detracting, the individual copper streaks on both sides having resulted in only small, shallow fissures in the surfaces. A razor sharp strike is also a praiseworthy attribute for this elusive type. From our sale of the Samuel J. Berngard Collection, March 2012, lot 7150.
