1838 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. HALF DOL. GR-13. Rarity-1. MS-64 (PCGS).A lustrous example remaining brilliant at center with splashes of bronze iridescence in the obverse fields. A fine, satiny luster blankets the fields and is untroubled by distracting blemishes. The reverse features a diagnostic crack that connects most of the legend. The Reeded Edge Capped Bust half dollars of 1836 to 1839 are among the more conditionally challenging types in the classic U.S. coinage series. This obviously important, near-Gem representative of the distinct HALF DOL reverse variety is seemingly earmarked for inclusion in a high quality type set.
