1836 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. 50 CENTS. GR-1, the only known dies. Rarity-2. AU Details--Reverse Repaired (NGC).Really an attractive coin for the assigned grade, both sides are pleasantly toned in dominant pewter gray. Direct lighting calls forth subtle pale blue and champagne-gold undertones, but of evidence for the NGC qualifier this coin is surprisingly silent. In fact, only after careful inspection with a loupe will one find traces of tooling and re-engraving at and around the letter N in the word CENTS. The key date status of the 1836 Reeded Edge half dollar has long been recognized in numismatic circles, and the winning bidder of this lot will be getting a lot of "coin" in a "Details" holder. From the Greenway Collection. Stacks paper envelope included.
