1859-S Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 1-A, the only known dies. AU-58 Details--Cleaned (ICG).This coin retains an uncommon amount of sharp to full striking detail for an issue that, when offered at all, tends to be in the lowest circulated grades. Both sides are curiously bright with noticeable hairlining to explain the stated qualifier, although we do note blushes of reddish-russet toning here and there around the peripheries. A highly elusive issue due to a limited mintage of 80,000 pieces and a high rate of attrition suffered through commercial use, the 1859-S quarter represents a particularly significant find in grades above VF.
