Large shaded US and obligation flanking central 1 with superimposed ONE at center. Heavy geometric lathe design elements are seen throughout and United States Legal Tender is within ribbons at left and right. A simply stunning proof impression and one for which we could not find any public auction records.pThis note is from the "more ornate the note, the better" era. That changed in the late 1890s when the Treasury decided that ornate designs such as on the recent Educational Notes were more likely to pass if counterfeit, as bank tellers and others might not examine them closely.pEx Harry E.
