1802/1 Capped Bust Right Half Eagle. BD-4. Rarity-7. Centered Overdate. EF-45 (NGC).A second rare die marriage of the 1802/1 half eagle, the present example from the BD-4 pairing. Glints of reddish-copper iridescence around many of the devices hardly interrupt dominant honey-gold patina. Well defined for the grade with only wispy handling marks that do not include any singularly distracting blemishes. From an estimated mintage for the variety of 1,500 to 2,000 coins, survivors of which are thought to number just seven to 10 examples (these estimates per Dannreuther, 2006). BD Die State c/b.
