1860 Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS).Frosty medium gold surfaces retain nearly complete mint luster. Originally preserved, as well, with a sharp strike from the dies. The Philadelphia Mint produced 577,670 circulation strikes of this denomination in 1860, or $11,553,400 face value. Although not as plentiful as the 1861, the 1860 is still one of the more readily obtainable Type I Liberty Head double eagles in middle to upper circulated grades. The present example would do equally well in a type or date set. From the Fairmont Collection.
