Great Britain--Middlesex. Undated (1790s) End of Pain Halfpenny Token. D&H-831, W-8992. Copper. MS-64 BN (NGC).A richly original example with glints of autumn-brown to otherwise dominant antique copper patina. Both sides are sharply struck with an overall smooth, hard, satiny texture. Related to American colonial types due to the fact that Thomas Paines writings helped to inspire the American Revolution. The English writer was born in 1737 and died in New York City in 1809, having emigrated to America in 1774 at the invitation of Benjamin Franklin.
