1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 56-n, W-5310. Rarity-1. Camel Head--Overstruck--VF-30 (PCGS).Generally smooth and glossy mid grade quality for this iconic variety in the New Jersey copper series. Both sides are toned in dark copper brown, the texture microscopically rough with light pitting that we mention solely for the sake of accuracy. There are no significant marks, and the detail is suitably bold for the grade with only the bottom of the date off the flan. Overstruck, as are many examples of this variety, although the faint design elements along the lower right reverse border are insufficient to determine the undertype. Siboni Die State 2, which is far scarcer than DS1.
