1867 Cyrus Field. Bronzed Copper. 102.6 mm. By William Barber. Julian PE-10. Choice About Uncirculated.Semi-reflective mahogany patina blankets both sides of this beautiful, impressive and rare medal. The obverse shows some minor cabinet friction, mainly on the highest points of the portrait, and the wide open field area exhibits a few stray contact marks. The reverse, with its high rim and busier design, has been spared virtually all signs of handling. This huge medal is near the outside limits of what the Philadelphia Mint could produce at the time, and its sheer size remains impressive today. One of just 125 examples struck.
