Such good fortune on the part of our bidders should not conceal the scarcity of all early (read: pre-1834) United States Mint gold coin issues in an absolute sense, most of which are nothing short of rare in Mint State relative to market demand. Like the PCGS MS-62 offered in the preceding lot, this NGC MS-61 is from the 1799 BD-7 die pairing, the most frequently encountered for the Small Obverse Stars emGuide Book/em variety. Both sides exhibit vivid golden yellow patina to lustrous satin surfaces. All design elements are boldly to sharply defined from a well executed, nicely centered strike. Pleasingly smooth in hand, especially for the assigned grade, this premium quality BU 1799 ten is sure to see spirited bidding among both advanced type collectors and dedicated early eagle enthusiasts.
