GUATEMALA. 8 Escudos, 1817-NG M. Nueva Guatemala Mint. Ferdinand VII (1808-33). NGC AU-55.Fr-22; KM-71; Cal-type-114#465. Struck in bright yellow gold with eye catching flash for the grade and very few marks that stand out over the surfaces. That said, the strike is what truly differentiates this coin from most survivors, with Ferdinands ear and laureate wreath being nearly complete where they are often largely blunt. The same can be said for the reverse shield, which displays limited softness when compared to most survivors. A vastly important coin for the type collector as such, as this coin retains detail that even finer graded coins (even ones graded Mint State) often lack.Ex: Eliasberg Collection.
