CHILE. Copper Pattern Peso, 1851. PCGS SP-63 RB Gold Shield.KM-Pn9. Struck at the Paris Mint with dies produced by Jean-Jacques Barre. A beautifully designed pattern, engraved with the unusual depiction of Libertys head crowned by a string of linked cherub figures. Produced in superb quality as well, the raised surfaces display full sharpness and the fields absolutely glow with reflective gleam. On both sides, the exposed surfaces possess sublime bluish purple color, while bright original mint red appears around the protected areas. Minor handling, as well as a single spot on Libertys neck, determines the grade, but the overall eye appeal exceeds that typically seen. All considered, a coin that should enthrall either the Chilean specialist or the collector of Latin American pattern coinage.
