Undated (ca. 1858) Harzfeld Bust Plaque. Berlin Iron. 106 mm. Musante GW-222. About Uncirculated, Mount Removed. The remains of a mount for a suspension loop at the top are noted, as is some minor pitting in the field, perhaps as made. Although this piece has been attributed to Sigmund K. Harzfeld, Musante (2016) notes that "it appeared in Snowden in 1861 [which fact] suggests that the plaque was in this country long before Harzfeld and the true identity of the artist is unknown." Harzfeld emigrated to the United States from Germany in the early 1870s. In any event, a rare item, also confirmed by Musante. From the Ralph A. Edson Collection.
