1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-6, Bressett 4-D, W-2020. Rarity-3. VERMONTENSIUM. VF-20, Granular.127.06 grains. Largely smooth and glossy in-hand, showing a uniform granularity under a glass. The central motif on the obverse is well defined, with sharp rays to the sun and a bold plow. VERMONTE is soft at the left border, which is typical of the RR-6 variety, and the date is trimmed at the bottom by a misaligned die. The reverse is negligibly drawn towards 1 oclock, leaving QUARTA tight to the rim. The usual softness is seen at DECIMA though the balance of devices remain nicely discernible. A pleasing example of this "floating tree" variety, featuring a notably well-composed planchet. From the Cohasco Collection of Colonials formed by Sir Philip H. Snyder, circa 1963-68.
