1902-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-63 (PCGS).A vivid rose-gold beauty that is sharply struck and highly lustrous on both sides. Of the 1,753,625 double eagles coined in the San Francisco Mint in 1902, exportation as part of the United States international trade was the destiny for most examples. Many have been repatriated in recent years, often with heavily abraded surfaces that limit the grade. The present coin is well above average -- expertly produced and nicely preserved, the sort of coin that would make a fitting addition to an advanced double eagle set. From the Fairmont Collection.
