Struck using the standard Indian Peace medal reverse design of 1809 to 1849, attributed to John Reich, this being the original die with pointed-top As in PEACE and AND. The obverse is the work of Moritz Furst, who received $1,000 for his labors and expenses. Julian (1977) also states that the John Quincy Adams Indian Peace medals were the first prepared under the auspices of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, successor organization to the Office of Indian Trade.
