COLOMBIA. 1819-JF 2 Reales. Bogotá mint. Restrepo 139.1. Overstruck on Caracas Royalist cob. VF-30 (PCGS).One of the great historical pieces of the Revolutionary era, from the 1819 2 Reales emission that was struck over Royalist cobs captured in Santa Fe and largely distributed in modern day Venezuela. These pieces are very rare today and infrequently encountered, but when they do emerge onto the market, most are abused or holed. This piece is exceptional, with choice surfaces and attractive light silver gray color. The cross side of the cob is aligned to the obverse, while a partial 18- date is visible on the reverse. Only light hairlines are noted. A superb example of this vital rarity.
