COLOMBIA. 1808-JJ 8 Escudos. Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint. Carlos IV (1788-1808). Restrepo 97.42. AU-50 (PCGS).According to Restrepo, just three examples of this rare variety are known, showing a broadly repunched 808 in the date paired with a JF over JJ assayer mark. A heavy horizontal die crack may help explain the rarity of the die marriage, crossing from N of FERDND to just before T of ET; without question this crack eventually split this die in two. Both sides are pleasing, even light yellow gold without significant flaws. A rarity in the series in any grade. From Superior Stamp and Coins sale of June 1974, lot 1179.
