Harper, Kansas. $10 1902 Red Seal. Fr. 615. The NB. Charter #8307. PMG Very Fine 30. Serial Number 1.Kansas collectors have been spoiled by the relative availability of interesting and high quality brown backs and red seals that the previous generations of bankers saved. But anyone following the state can tell you that new discoveries in this market are few and far between. Of the 14 #1 red seals listed on the state, two are in museums, four are part of an uncut sheet, and the majority of the others are part of a single collection. In fact, it has been ten years since a #1 Kansas red seal was offered at auction. As with most number ones, this survivor is part of a small bankers cache that we are offering this evening. The serial number is the sizzle here, but dont overlook the overall rarity. Harper had four national banks issue currency. Three of the four are unreported. There are three blue seals listed on this charter. All three of those notes are from the later of charter 8307s two titles. This red seal is the only note now known to exist from The National Bank of Harper.
