Fr. 2407. 1928 $500 Gold Certificate. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.With just around 100 pieces known Series of 1928 $500 Gold Certificates are easily considered one of the key notes to any small size U.S. currency collection. Their scarcity is enhanced by the fact that from April 5, 1933 until April 24, 1964 these notes were illegal to own due to an executive order issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Just 13 examples are recorded in the census as Uncirculated with PMG certifying just four notes in the Gem grade range. The presently offered example displays four boardwalk margins along with vividly printed inks and crackling fresh paper. The all important overprint is seen in its original yellow-gold brilliance. A true grade rarity with just a single example certified as finer. It has been more than three years since collectors have had an opportunity to compete for a Gem 1928 $500 Gold Certificate at auction. This is certainly a note that would be a shining addition to any collection it enters.
