PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.Nearly one million 1934 $1000s were printed in both Light Green Seal & Dark Green Seal varieties, yet PCGS & PMG census data show only 4500 LGS 34 $1000s are known in all grades, with just 33 LGS gems graded for all 12 districts combined and no notes graded higher than 66. A review of PCGS & PMG Pops reveals that $1000 LGS gem 66s are known for only 5 districts, with Boston & Atlanta districts having three 66s each & Richmond, Chicago & Minneapolis having just one 66 each.<p><p>Comparable examples would be the one & only 1934 $1000 LGS Chicago graded PMG 66EPQ which exceeded its high estimate & sold for $32,900.00 in our August, 2016 ANA Sale and the sole 1934 $1000 LGS Richmond 66, graded PMG 66EPQ, blew past its high estimate & brought a stratospheric $47,000.00 in an April 2015 sale. <p><p>Recent auction records attest that gem LGS $1000s have become the new cool, the prized darling of a new generation of savvy collectors of means that shun ho-hum generic material that appears in every auction in favor of extraordinary notes that may appear only once in a generation. We can only hazard a guess at what this strikingly original Minneapolis gem will hammer for, but feel even a mid five-figure bid may not be enough to take it home tonight. <p>
