Germantown, Pennsylvania. Bank of Germantown. Jan. 15, 1862. $1. Very Fine.(PA-150 G8a) American Bank Note Co. Phil. Black with vermillion tints. Native American princess at lower left. Child upper left of center. Iconic depiction of four men in a small boat fending off an attack by a polar bear at center. "PHILADELPHIA" in vermillion above with large vermillion "1" counters to each side of the central vignette. Vermillion microlettering in the signature panel at bottom. A beautiful representation of this ever popular "Polar Bear" type. Bold inks present the type in striking detail. Deep vermillion overprints are noted along with sound paper that is evenly circulated and free of any distracting marks or blemishes. The present note is finer than the example that realized $4,935 in our March 2017 Baltimore auction. An exceptional note with broad appeal and appreciation.
