PCGS Currency Choice New 63.This Selma, Alabama charter has long provided collectors with beautiful high grade examples of Original Series $5 national banknotes. The presently offered note fits that description and is darkly printed on bright white paper. Well signed bank officers signatures are seen at the lower left and right, while a bold cherry red spiked Treasury Seal is featured right of center. The highly detailed back design features an intricate vignette <em>"Landing of Columbus"</em> based on a painting by John Vanderlyn. The grading service mentions minor mounting remnants on back (which could probably be removed by careful conservation).<p><strong>The City National Bank</strong><p>The City National Bank of Selma was chartered in November 1870 with an authorized capital of $300,000. The first president was James Isbell and the founding cashier was J.W. Love. In late 1872 William P. Armstrong succeeded Isbell as president. In 1888 Albert G. Parris was cashier.
