1801 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-102, T-1. Rarity-4+. VF-30 (NGC).,This desirable Choice VF example is painted in a rainbow of iridescent pastels. Shades of turquoise shimmer at the centers and bloom into warmer orange and crimson at the border. Traces of luster remain in the protected areas throughout and dramatically showcase this vibrant coloration. A planchet flaw remains well hidden behind the central stars above the eagles head and is as-made. Scattered marks are commensurate with the grade though none of which are individually distracting. A small crack descends from above the first S in STATES equivalent to Tompkins Die Stage 3, which Tompkins calls "scarce." A beautiful and scarce example.,From the Sutton Court Collection of Early Half Dollar Varieties. Acquired privately from Harmer Rooke Numismatists in the 1980s.,
