1788 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 13-N, W-6380. Rarity-4+. No Period after MASSACHUSETTS. AU-53 (PCGS).,145.8 grains. Light chocolate brown surfaces show brief trouble-free circulation and a much choicer than normal planchet for a Massachusetts copper. A faint diagonal planchet streak is perceived on the obverse when coin is held at arms length on this coin that is otherwise unimprovable for the grade level. As with many of the Massachusetts copper die marriages, the Ryder 13-N is known by a few Mint State examples, followed by pleasing AU examples like this that are snapped up by knowledgeable collectors who recognize their scarcity.,From the Michael Demling Collection of Massachusetts Cents.
