This was Mikes representative of the very rare 1787 Massachusetts Ryder 1-B Cent, here seen as the host coin for a 1788 Connecticut Miller 16.3-N copper, the only colonial coin known struck over Massachusetts Cents. Mossman had cited the existence of 9examples in his appendix of overstruck Colonial coppers in his 1992 masterwork <em>Money of the American Colonies and Confederation, </em>and Connecticut copper researcher Randy Clark has more recently documented at least 13 pieces, not including the current piece.<em> </em>On the obverse, only the first O of COMMONWEALTH from the host is visible at breast of Connecticut obverse effigy, while on the reverse, SA of MASSACHUSETTS and the upper part of eagles rightwing (viewers left) are visible from the host in the upper left field, as are vestiges of the arrows are hidden in seated Libertys shield.
