Undated (ca. 1865) W. Greaves & Sons Store Card. Brass. 25.4 mm. Musante GW-768, Baker-538. VG-8 (PCGS).,Well worn, as befits the assigned grade, yet with Washingtons portrait fully outlined and some of the peripheral lettering discernible. The curious nature of this piece as the head of a saw blade bolt is plainly evident on the reverse. Boldly toned in deep brassy-copper with scattered handling marks further indicating considerable use. W. Greaves & Sons was located in New Orleans, their store cards exceedingly rare with only three or four examples known. One example was part of the Garrett Collection, although not included in any of the Garrett sales, while a second piece from the Appleton Collection is held at the Massachusetts Historical Society. This is the first example of the type that we can recall offering, and it is sure to see spirited bidding among specialists.,,
